Do your buttons ever get pushed? Have you ever felt overwhelmed by a sibling, a friend, or a challenging situation?
My Calm Button is a heartfelt story that celebrates sisterhood, diversity, and the importance of understanding and regulating our emotions. Through the experiences of two sisters, readers are introduced to the unique strengths and challenges that make every individual special.
Based on true events and a family that is close to our hearts, one of our main characters, Kayla, has Rett Syndrome, a disability that affects her communication and mobility. As her sister Lily learns to navigate everyday life alongside Kayla, she discovers valuable lessons about empathy, patience, and emotional regulation.
Filled with practical tips, calming strategies, and real-life coping tools, My Calm Button empowers children and families to recognize their feelings and find healthy ways to return to a calm and regulated state.
Thank you for joining us on this journey and for supporting The Buttons Project. We hope this story inspires meaningful conversations, fosters understanding, and reminds every reader that everyone deserves to feel seen, supported, and understood.
My Calm Button is intended to be used as a read-aloud, specifically for children aged 8-12 (vocabulary modifications can be made for younger ages). We highly recommend it to parents, teachers, and those who work in childcare.
