Ibrahim, a young Guinean with a promising career in medical research, was selected by his research institute to undertake a two and a half months internship at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia. Immersed in a community of brilliant scientists and captivated by the vibrant city of Atlanta, Ibrahim's experience took an unexpected turn when he forged a surprising friendship with his cab driver. Filled with hope and a fresh outlook, he returned to his home country after the internship.
However, Ibrahim's dreams were shattered a few years later when he discovered that his superiors did not share his enthusiasm. Disheartened, he made the decision to return to New York in search of opportunities for further training and to pursue his graduate degree. Upon arriving in the U.S., he sought asylum and embarked on a new path, veering away from his original career trajectory.
Amidst the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, Ibrahim's world was further shaken when he tragically lost his beloved mother. Facing immense turmoil during his time in New York City, he found solace in the companionship of an old acquaintance who stood by him through the hardships they both endured.
