Marshall Freidman, head of Psychiatry at the prestigious Hunter Newman Center, made a terrible misdiagnosis concerning Rose Shaw. He thought she is a lovely, fragile, complex woman who loves him. In... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Not only does this book paint an intricate portrait of Pittsburgh, it offers insight into the tortured inner selves of its main characters. Though left wanting a bit with Marshall, we are taken on an emotional roller coaster with Rose. From fear, anger, disgust and pity Rose Shaw is introduced and developed well throughout her story. Pittsburghers will appreciate the detail of description, even for those places that exist only in fiction. Overrall, a great read.
Exciting and Fast-Paced

Muted Colors is a real page turner. You just have to find out what's around every corner and can't stop reading. Although it's a medical thriller, the small amount of medical terminology used is clearly explained so that anyone can understand it and follow the plot. It's sexy, sometimes disgustingly so, but that only helps us to see the true evil hiding in Rose Shaw's distorted brain. Rose's ultimate goal makes us think about and ponder modernistic scientific advances and the path down which they could ultimately lead us. I would have liked to have seen a slightly richer character development in Marshall Friedman (and some others), to better understand his deepest fears and thoughts. Also, the book has a number of typographical errors that hopefully will be corrected on a second printing. Overall, I definitely recommend it!

This was a very enjoyable read !!! It was definately a book you didn't want to put down. I was very impressed! I've lived in Pittsburgh and knew exactly where he was talking about in the book, which added to my enjoyment. I could actually picture the characters at the places he was describing which was fun for me!!! Can't wait to read his next book!!

I found the book Muted Colors to be very interesting reading. I may be a bit prejudicial as I am a Pittsburgh native and the setting is my city. Gerald has a marvelous command of the English language--his descriptions are out of sight! Wait till you read about Kennywood Park! A very enjoyable book, you will highly recommend Muted Colors to your friends.
His best yet!

Only those that remember the past will not make the same mistakes. This is best said with Muted Colors. You can see right through the authors eyes where and what is happening. Life sure takes some strange roads and this one flows with the great ebb and flow of an ocean tide toward conclusion.
