Essential!

As a music fan, I tend to look at things from a fair perspective. So do the people from Musichound. They believe, like I do, that not every artist has a five bone album. They also believe, like I do, that some artist need to call it quits instead of plodding along. The reviews, I found, are good, but not always accurate too my taste. The listing of albums available is also good. It also deals with the early part of Rock and Roll very well. The artist are given a fair shake. Some people that reviewed this book said that it stunk. Did you open your mind before you read it or did you go directly to the artist(s) you like and base your opinion on that. If so, read the whole book. Nobody will be disappointed if it is done that way

I like it.

Sure, album guides can always be criticized for one reason or another. Someone's left out, someone rated your favorite album too low, an album you hate is rated too high, etc. But the bottom line on "Musichound Rock" is that it does what it does very well. Nice scope of coverage. Nice writing. Nice pictures. Nice value. (This book weighs more than my first child and costs quite a bit less!!) Get the idea? Then get the book.

Kick a**!!!

I love rock 'n' roll, and I won't be putting any more dimes in my local CD store without consulting this incredibly awesome book first. Everyone's in here. And the "what to avoid" information is very valuable. Long live Music Hound Rock!!!

Very honest reviews.

Maybe the reason Ozzy fans are ticked off at Graff and Durchholz is because the biographies and reviews in MusicHound Rock are brutally honest. Sure, a lot of people will disagree with (probably) a lot of the artist write-ups and reviews. But I've found the material in MusicHound to be quite legitimate and very well written. MusicHound doesn't just pass bones out for the heck of it...you've got to EARN them. If you like straight-to-the-point writing that tells the truth and nothing but the truth, pick up MusicHound Rock. It's a great resource, and a bargain at twice the price.

A music encyclopedia must-have for any music fan.

Over 900 pages chock full of information on the major rock groups and musicians of this century await you in this encyclopedic book. Included in the information for each band is band member info, short histories of the band, best albums, worst albums, and information on bands that influenced or were influenced by that particular group/artist. Want a list of bands with acronyms for names or bands with the word "blue" in their name? Just turn to the appendices which are also filled with interesting information such as record label resources, tribute albums, producers and category info. A personal favorite, this is a must-have musical reference book for the true fan. --Flip
