Through the use of a great number of examples - many of which are quite new in a theory book - this text traces a path towards the discovery of the different melodic typologies and the power of melody, meant as a narration of emotions. It also provides a series of ideas aimed to be an inspiration for those who want to make their own melodies more interesting, and a call for a new compositive perspective based on the melody. In the appendix, a set of exercises will allow the reader to test his or her understanding of the proposed method of analysis.
