Anyone especially those who have spent time in the coastal areas of Southeastern, MA (Fall River, Westport, Dartmouth and New Bedford) will enjoy this mystery written by a retired school teacher. Joseph Roderick uses a recipe that combines sleuthing, social commentary and gastronomic travelogue to provide an entertaining mystery set in the rich cultural area of Southeastern, MA dominated by Azorean Portuguese and Italian communities. Roderick draws on the famous Lizzie Borden murders for his present day mystery and creates an entertaining partnership of two retired sleuths who, when they are not figuring out what to eat, are working with the local district attorney's office to solve the murder of a slum landlord. I hope Murder of a Shylock won't be discovered by folks who drive through Fall River and New Bedford on their way to the Cape-we don't want to give away too many secrets and the lines at Billy's café for chourico sandwiches are already too long-but I do hope that Roderick keeps these gents around and that we see more of these stories
New England at it's best

As a former resident of the South Eastern Massachusetts area it was really nice to read a good murder mystery that brought back so many details of where I grew up as a child. Jack and Noah remind me of so many people that I have come across in my life during my travels. They are extremely different in many ways but get along ever so well. I look forward to hopefully reading another story of Jack and Noah on another mystery soon. As for the story line it will keep you guessing right up to the very end.
Truly Entertaining

In Jack Crawford and Noah Amos, we have two very entertaining gentleman. As sleuths go, they are just quirky enough and have such good chemistry that I feel as if I could bump into them at the local coffee shop. As a recent transplant to the Mass/RI region, I felt that I was being given an "insider's guide" to the local flavor of the area. I truly look forward to the next Crawford/Amos escapade. A great read for in front of a warm fire on a cold New England night.
