Murder of a Brother

When Deputy Frank Stark's best friend is killed for no reason, he must then solve the case. He has a hunch that the local county's bad boy Toby Martin, who is accused of running an illegal moonshine business, is the prime suspect. All is going ok, that is, until somebody in a black van starts shooting at an environmentalist that is examining the rivers for poison. Frank must solve two murder cases and two mysterious death threats. Can he do it? Read Murder of a Brother to find out. I myself would recommend this book to teenaged mystery/ murder mystery lovers. The first reason I would recommend this book is for it's extremely suspense based storyline. For example, at first when you read this book it seems dull. But as the story progresses it becomes more and more action packed. For example, When Frank Stark is chasing a madman named Marvin Moore, he is shot but you find out that he was wearing a bullet proof vest. When the main character gets shot at, you are surprised he is still alive, because he is shot at a lot. The second reason I like this book is because of its real life connection. The book is not based in some tower in the middle of a desert. It even isn't in a castle up in the sky. The reason I like this book is because it has real life connections. For example, it is based in a county in Southwest Virginia. Another example is because it only takes one shot to kill a person and not fifteen. The final reason I like this book is because of its depiction of the character's personality and lifestyle. For example, it depicted Sheriff Riggins as a fearful man who only works so he can be on TV. Another example is Deputy Frank. He is depicted as a man who got drunk but still was a great mystery solver. After he solved the murder of Joe Sacks they made a new department just so he could be a detective though there weren't any in the county. All young adult suspense/murder case based type book-lovers. If you read this book then you would know that author Jack Crosswell loves to write stories based in Southwest Virginia. Jack Crosswell has a way to make a story seem life-like. He can also write stories that make you jump and make you stop what you're doing.

This is life in Southwest Virginia

Crosswell hits the mark when it comes to describing what its like to live in Southwest Virginia. The book is fast paced and does not get bogged down in needless descriptions. Much like the area of Southwest Virginia that he writes about, the language is stark and bare-boned with nothing to hide. It is in-your-face and politically incorrect. A good read for the summer in the lawn chair with a glass of ice tea overlooking the next ridge.
