This is a mystery novel that will keep you reading to find out what happens next. The protagonist Jean Smiley is a retired English teacher residing in the Spokane Valley in western Washington. She responds to a frantic request from her friend Beth to help learn the identity of "C", a woman responsible for contributing to the end of Beth's thirty-year marriage. In the process of trying to help her friend, Jean also learns that the death of a mutual friend may not have been an accident, after all. With the help of her next door neighbor and friend John Houck, who is a retired police detective, Jean finds herself involved in unraveling not only the identity of the mysterious "C", but also the details of the death of a former clasmate and friend. The action takes place in the Spokane, WA, area, Missoula, MT, and reaches its climax in Coeur d'Alene, ID. The characters are believeable, the settings are real, and for those tired of explicit sex and violence, this is a refreshing, entertaining, "feel good" mystery.
A Great Book

I enjoyed this book very much. It is an easy book to read yet keeps a person guessing to the end. The setting is one I am familiar with so that made the reading that much more enjoyable.
