Murder At Starlight Pier: A Katie Barrett Mystery
Everyone saw Ryan Barrett make the drink.
Katie Barrett heard what they missed.
Seventeen-year-old Katie Barrett planned to spend the evening recording the sounds of Starlight Pier for a school project. Instead, her recorder captures the night a man dies.
Douglas Ames-the powerful owner of the beloved California pier-suffers a fatal allergic reaction after drinking a milkshake made by Katie's older brother, Ryan.
And Ryan looks guilty.
He argued with Ames in public. He prepared the drink. Evidence points toward his station. Then a viral video turns the worst night of Katie's life into everyone else's open-and-shut murder case.
But everyone is watching the video.
Katie is listening to what happened outside the frame.
Her recorder kept running beneath the carnival music, crashing waves, machinery, and crowds. And buried in those sounds are details that don't fit the story everyone has already decided to believe.
As suspicion closes around Ryan, Katie starts reconstructing the night for herself-what happened, when it happened, and what the evidence actually proves. The deeper she digs into the workings of Starlight Pier, the more she realizes how easily a true moment can become part of a false story.
Ryan may have given everyone a reason to suspect him.
But someone knew how to use it.
And somewhere in Katie's recording may be the mistake they never knew they made.
