In a relatively short reading time, Lenora Whiteman takes you deep into the hearts and minds of those new "Or-ree-gon" settlers. Her gift to the reader is her use of research and the vernacular of the day in their thoughts and conversations. What a splendid way to have a history lesson.

This was a very well written story of an historical event that occurred more than a century ago. Mrs. Whiteman makes you feel that you are right there living the story. She has been very thorough in her research, and even though it is a true story, she ties up 'loose ends' very well. Too bad it wasn't fiction, then we could bind up ALL loose ends. Well done, and write some more!
