Mumu's story tells of the miserable lives of the poor, points out huge cultural differences among races, reveals social ills, and exposes the dirt and ugliness of professional golf. Mumu's evolving friendship with his American friend is inspiring. Their mutual realization that money and fame are not the keys to happiness, but rather, that the simple monkish life of doing good deeds satisfies their soul yearning.
