Nice Reprint of 1871 Cookbook with 1973 Introduction
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 19 years ago
I purchased a very serviceable used copy without a dust jacket for $0.99. This edition is a good reprint of the 1871 cookbook with a modern (1973) introduction. Pages of my copy were yellowed suggesting that it was not printed on low acid paper. It isn't quite collectable in itself but the content is an interesting look at cookery in 1871. Recommended for those with an interest in historical cookbooks and food preparation. The original title is: Mrs. Porter's New Southern Cookery Book , and Companion for Frugal and Economical Housekeepers: Containing Carefully Prepared and Practically Tested Recipes for All Kinds of Plain and Fancy Cooking Original Publisher: John E. Potter and Company Publisher: Promontory Press (1974) ISBN: 0883940191 Introduction by Louis I. Szathmary The binding of my copy is a cloth covered hardboard type of hardcover of moderate quality hence the unknown binding description. It is possible the same ISBN was used for different bindings so check carefully with the seller if the binding and dustjacket are important to you.
