Mr Darcy Stays for Christmas (Christmas Pride & Prejudice Variations)

By Emma Beamond

Mr Darcy stays to protect his friend from the Bennets. He has not considered who will protect him.

When Mr Bingley refuses to leave Netherfield, Mr Darcy remains in Hertfordshire to keep an eye on his friend's attachment to Jane Bennet. Miss Bingley expects reassuring reports. Darcy expects ample evidence that her concerns are justified. Mr Hurst expects a comfortable chair and access to the cellar.

Daily visits to Longbourn soon upset these sensible arrangements. Mrs Bennet proves unexpectedly difficult to disapprove of, Mr Hurst discovers interests beyond his dinner, and Elizabeth Bennet keeps finding reasons to laugh with the man she had so much preferred to laugh at.

Elizabeth knows that Mr Darcy is proud, disagreeable, and quite determined to think ill of her family. Unfortunately, his behaviour is becoming most inconvenient to her opinion of him.

Between a disastrous card party, an unwelcome suitor, and Christmas festivities that no gentleman can hope to escape with his dignity intact, Darcy begins to suspect that he has misunderstood rather more than Jane Bennet's feelings.

With Miss Bingley threatening to return, he must decide what to do about it. Staying for Christmas was supposed to save his friend from falling in love. It may prove a very poor precaution for himself.

Mr Darcy Stays for Christmas is a Pride and Prejudice variation, perfect for readers who enjoy witty banter, sweet Regency romance, Christmas house parties, unexpected friendships, and Darcy and Elizabeth falling in love amid the cheerful chaos of the Bennet family. A clean historical romance with a guaranteed happily ever after.
