This is a remake of "My Favorite Wife" (1940). Yet you could say that it was redesigned for Doris Day and James Garner. I would not go as far as saying that this is an improvement, yet there are so many amusing scenes and characters that you can easily blur this with the original. They could not have picked a better (slimier) insurance agent than John Astin. He plays a similar character in another Doris Day movie, “That Touch of Mink”.
Nicholas Arden’s (James Garner) first wife gets lost on an island and, after five years, is presumed dead. The day she is declared dead, he remarries. Before he can consummate the new marriage, his previous wife is found and finds out the situation.
