Thomas Gene is a loner. He has no friends and he has grown used to this life. In fact, he is bullied by people at school and by his own parents. He promises on the start of his Junior year of high school that things are going to be different for him at the start of the new year, but he worries that things won't work out for him.

Lucas Edward is the rebel. He has been in trouble countless times. This year, if he steps out of line at school he will be expelled. Raised by his aunt, he promises her that he will try to make a friend that will help him change his life around. But is that really what he wants.

Thomas and Edward stumble upon each other while at school and start to develop a friendship. Later, the friendship develops into a romantic relationship. Thomas learns that he shouldn't have to be afraid all the time and Edward learns that he can be different around him. Can Thomas be happy for the rest of his life though? And can love conquer Edward?
