I have read this book about five times! The characters captured my imagination from the very start. It was a good read with a very interesting idea. I found it an enjoyable book with a dark mystery. I have never read a book where I liked so many characters as this one. It is very hard to choose a favorite. With every page you read you feel like you are there, in the 1820s, fighting along side the characters. Here is a brief description of my favorite characters, from my point of view.... Ben is an awesome character: stubborn, strong, skilled, doesn't talk too much; kind of a loner. That is until he saves Aiyana. She starts to travel with him and he seems to shrug off, that 'loner-attitude,' *wink-wink.* All-in-all, a likable character: trapper, fought in the war of 1812, skilled fighter. Don't piss him off; if you do, don't put it past him to make you see it his way, with his fist, foot, knife, or knee in the crotch! Aiyana, she is in my eyes a free spirit. Having the choice to return to her tribe or travel with her new savior, she picks the savior. Maybe it is because she is adventurous. Maybe she feels this is the path she was made to take. Guess you won't know unless your read it, *wink wink.* I dare you to try and not like her! Bet you can't resist her charm, kindness, spunk, loyalty, love, fight, and for the men, her looks! Zed, what can I say about Zeb? He starts off at what seems to be a lone trapper who prefers the quiet. But he is actually a nice fellow who prefers to travel with others, although, trapping at that time period was more profitable to do alone. A skilled fighter, who fought in the war of 1812. Makes me think of a tiger stalking it's prey. Plus for some reason his looks remind me of Tarzan.... Oh, if only he had a loin cloth! He could rescue me any day! Claude, plucky comic relief! Dare you to try and not laugh! Ever heard the term red neck? Not as an insult, totally love him! He cracks me up, and for the laugh factor he would be my favorite. Plus, he kind of reminds me of those dirty old men you see on TV, that like to joke a lot (not it the nasty way though). Again, it's not a bad thing! totally hilarious! Fought in the Ohio Indian conflicts, skilled in hand-to-hand combat. Don't get in his way, or interrupt his bath!!! Isaac, Okay ladies listen up!!! Blonde, young, bear claw necklace, need I say more?...*drools*... Skilled shooter: try running from him, bet he will get you with his rifle! Charming personality, not too cocky, or into himself; makes him extremely likeable! Seems to value friendship over everything else, extremely loyal. So, all-in-all, the characters are enough fun to read it for them. But then there is the aliens. The Guardians, totally awesome: interesting look, creepy; some sadistic personalities; didn't bother me any. It was an interesting read. If you like any of the following, I highly suggest this novel: tracking, hunting, fighting, action, variety of personalities, 1820s' trapping era, aliens,
