Mothers and Sons Jean Lush

I'm a grandparent of three boys under ten years of age. Wish this book was on the market when I raised my own son. This book is a valuable tool in raising and shaping boys to be productive, emotionally healthy and confident men. The book outlines safe boundaries for Mom's as they impact their son's lives everyday. And, excellent info for Mom's as they too grow into the role of motherhood. Cram packed with great advice, view points and pertinent info.

Highly educational

Factual, yet compassionately written--a wonderful resource for mothers, whether they be married or single. Though I have read extensively on parenting boys, this book provided valuable new insights in a way that both challenged and comforted me. I have recommended it to many other moms who are serious about bringing up sons to be healthy, responsible, and happy. Many of the principles, such as, teaching the work ethic, can be applied to daughters, as well. There were only a few points, presented from a more humanistic philosophical view, that I did not agree with. Otherwise, this is a must for your resource library, Moms AND Dads.

Wonderful Book - that doesn't pull punches

Covered very difficult topics without giving a hoot about political correctness. I was terrified of the thoughts of raising a son alone. I knew that being too passive and tender a mom could do as much damage as being too strong and masuline a mom. This book clarified many things in my gut - and explained "what was wrong" with the things I had seen other single mothers do that I didn't agree with but couldn't explain why. Understanding why is the key.I especially liked the Spiritual side of this book. With Society conflicting with Christian Biblical teachings, its nice to have some issues addressed without politics. such as sexual development, homosexuality, proper punishment methods and the psychological impact of improperly applied parenting.

There's hope!

Coming from a family of all girls, and having two girls before a son, it's wonderful to realize he's just a boy(not an alien)

a warm and reassuring resource that explains boys being boys

as a counselor i have recommended this book for years and am disappointed that it is out of print. the authors provide warm witty advice and openly explain boys' behavior that often baffles or disturbs single mothers or mothers with little support from fathers. the areas on sexuality are especially helpful. christian/conservative.
