As Maria continues her journey to self-dependence by running away from Gino and starting a new life on her own in Florida, she is haunted by her past as her mother pushes her in the direction of Gino's path again. Maria endures more of the pain and suffering she once left behind in New Jersey, which now follows her into Florida. Yet, she finds a way to once again push past it. Feeling the guilt of being the bridge that allowed Gino and Cora to move to Florida, she never expected that her mistake was what opened the door to her happiness and her marriage to someone very close to Gino.
