Using a fugal form, Dyck intertwines the I Ching, the history of revolutionary China and immigrant life. "The December sun shone on banners waving / in Kwantung province a mother bore Jong / Banners blown: blown by the wind / Dark was the mountain: overcast in the north / in Human province: when Mao was born / a red star gleamed in the dark red north."
