I wasn't an A student in Math when I attended school almost 27 years ago, the book was an excellent tool, my exam contained a lot it was dosage calculations such as IV doses, compounding different strengths of creams together to get one, .... and you had to know the different schedules of drugs I-VI i studied very hard and it payed off, I PASSED but i cant say it was because of this book, I used the material here Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE, PTCB) Simulation Software. 3,020 Questions. PTCB Practice Calculations, PTCB Practice Medication Usage and Administration. HIGHLY recommended

This is one of the better books available to give you a good general feel for all the different aspects of the pharmacy technician's job responsibilities. There are a lot of color pictures and examples which are lacking in many other books. The book gives a general description of the different positions a pharmacy technician may hold such as duties in a hospital setting or in a retail setting, special duties such as preparing chemotherapy drugs, IV drugs and compounding, and also includes chapters on the different body systems and drugs that treat diseases in each system. A CD comes with the book that has animations of the body systems and problems to work on to help prepare for the certification exam. The appendix includes a list of 200 of the more popular drugs and a math review. There is also a practice exam at the end. This is a good all inclusive book if you only want to buy one book that covers a little of everything instead of buying all the books in a series. I work as a technician in a pharmacy and I would recommend this book.
Text Books are the way to go...

There are a lot of people out there with on the job experience in broad career paths. Text books are very useful, no matter what your goal, or study method. Some things you learn and forget, this book explains everything. From terms to dosage calculations. I recommend this book to anyone seeking a certification as a pharm tech. It helped me.
Easy on the eyes and on the mind for a text book.

This is a great stand alone basic text. It covers the info you need and more. The best part is that while this text is not exactly a page turner, it is well written and the colorful layout will help keep you awake through the boring details. The topics range from basic human biology and disease processes to laws related to pharmacology to history and procedures in hospitals and retail pharmacies. What is missing from this text and ALL the others that I have seen is the more meaty information on insurance processing and DEA audits. (While not a must for passing the certifying exam, it is essential to working in retail pharmacy.) The free CD on drugs and herbs is interactive for the web and is probably worth $20 by itself. I also bought the work book, which I recommend. If I were teaching Pharmacy Technicians at a community college, this is the basic text I would use because the layout and flow keep the miind engaged. I am a nurse and have an AAS.
