After an Einstein-Rosen bridge - a wormhole - was perfected, this marvel of human achievement was primarily used to supply the Earth with a super-metal from an unknown world.

A glitch during a routine transport of materials inadvertently allowed a dormant alien species to reach Earth. Thanks to the success of millions of years of uninterrupted evolution, these aliens no longer require physical bodies and exist as pure sentient energy. They have great abilities to control matter and infect nearly all forms of life, including humans.
