This is an experimental comic mystery novel.,written, truth be told..., for fun. That means I was bored some years ago and, in a month and a half while traveling around the southern border.., wrote it, and then spent six months revising.) In Mort and Blackie two rookie detectives, Mortimer Jablonsky and John Blackman. Mort and Blackie, try to solve a murder. True to the way my brain works, Mort and Blackie uses almost any comic, satirical, or absurd situation the two detectives may find themselves in, to poke fun at any and all institutions. Mortie is very large, calm, soft looking but actually intelligent and physically extremely strong. He is a thinking sort of young man, something of a philosopher in his own way. Blackie, on the other hand, is hyperactive, tiny, cheerful and, above all, pragmatic. He is addicted to gadgets of any sort.As a result of their enthusiasm in aiding a bungled drug bust, they are relegated to Parks detail by Mortie's uncle, Chief Powell, in order to get them out of the way. A body is found, and the resulting investigation leads them to a beautiful woman who may also be a criminal, and to a terrible past scandal in the police department.
