This book is about the importance of body measurements when selecting replacement or breeding heifers.The Compagnie Pastorale du Haut-Lomami (PHL) ranch in Congo Kinshasa used to select heifers on the basis of live weight, which should not be less than 300 kgs. However, our study showed that liveweight could not be the only selection criterion. Taking into account and correctly evaluating certain body measurements of the heifer could be a factor in improving its beef and reproductive quality.
