"Morning Will Come" is the story of "the Captain," an ordinary man that has spent his life working both sides of the fence in Law Enforcement. Approaching sixty-years-old, he has decided it's time to leave his job at the prison, and perhaps lead a more sedate life. Though a witness to many horrors that man can inflict upon others and themselves, he has managed to maintain his balance, and now, after his last day working in the prison, in his part-time job as a Police Officer, he comes face to face with a horror that no officer ever wants to be a part of: a mass school shooting. On his last day at the prison "the captain" is able to meet and reflect on many of the officers and inmates that have influenced his life. Each chapter starts with the on-going school shooting, then leads into the captain's last day at the prison. Each chapter hints of the danger and turmoil any officer would have in a similar situation, all the while showing the human side of the Captain, and those around him. He is alone in the situation, with help unable to reach him. He is left to deal with the trauma of witnessing death, and causing death. Through it all, he struggles to maintain his humanity. "Morning Will Come" by author Keith Hellwig exposes the reality of a world few people ever confront and no officer ever wants to confront.
