In 1780 Major John Booth Morgan rode into the Watauga settlement where he was to serve with Col John Sevier in the frontier militia guarding against Indian attacks. While he was there Alifair Leandro asked him to escort her though the Cumberland Gap into the wilds of Kain-tuc-kee. However, before their trip the Revolutionary war came to the south and Morgan rode with his cousins and the Over the Mountain Men to fight Patrick Ferguson at the Battle of Kings Mountain. Not long after he returned to the Watauga settlement his uncle, Daniel Morgan, sent for him and the Long Rifles of the Frontier Militia to support him at the Battle of the Cowpens. During the aftermath of the battle Morgan was wounded while saving General Green from capture and spent several months recuperating before finally leaving for Kain-tuck-kee. Indian trouble, however, was on the horizon and Morgan accompanied by his cousins, Willis and Lacie, would need all their fighting skills just to survive.
