The inimitable Mr. Amsterdam brings you two books for the price of one: a collection of great recipes made with liquor and a hilarious collection of booze-related jokes, poems, and toasts to keep the... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Really. It is. Morey Amsterdam's Benny Cooker Crock Book for Drinkers is divided between recipes and jokes about drinking. Most of the jokes are excellent so I can almost guarantee you'll use them even if you never use one of the recipes. As far as the recipes, they are fun to read while you imagine the possibilities, and the ones I've tried have turned out well. Some of the recipes have been recommended by Amsterdam's friends, so there are some (older) celebrity names attached to some of the recipes, such as Tomatoes (Mel) Torme. And to maintain it's credibility as a cookbook, the book is actually divided into chapters featuring appetizers, soups, entrees, vegetables and desserts. OTOH, if you want to search for a recipe that contains a specific type of alcohol, the index is the place to start. The jokes, alas, are not categorized in either the table of contents or the index. Although I could imagine standard drinking joke categories such as wives, policemen, animals and bartenders. So you will just be forced to laugh your way through the book. If are a drinker with a cooking problem, or know someone who is, or if you want to annoy a teetotaler, I highly recommend this book. And you can trust me. Because it's not April Fool's. Yet.
