Certain she will die on the desolate Dakota prairie after native Americans attack her wagon train, Carolina finds herself miraculously rescued by Drake McNeil, a handsome stranger. Original. This description may be from another edition of this product.
Lila Chesney is forced into the life of a desperado and was about to take part in a daring masquerade and sell herself into unhold wedlock. She is being chased by Pinkertons looking for a gang of murdering train robbers that they believe she is tied to. Garrett is on her trail and soon a love between them will jepardize the case that he has pledged his whole life to complete. I found the story well written with interesting supporting characters and love is found be several by the close of the book. The book is set post Civil war and touches on the history of Quantelle's raiders and the horrors that they caused during the war. Nice read and good romance.

This story is set during the 1870s when the Black Hills of the Dakotas were given by treaty to the Indians, but whites discovered gold and went anyway. Caroline's wagon train is attacked and all are killed but she manages to drag herself out on to the prairie. Drake finds her there and tends to her injuries, but she is unable to remember who she is. The story has a wonderful set to supporting characters that add richness to this wonderful romance. The plot is well thought out and includes realistic living conditions, hardships and tug at my emotions from the start. I would recommend this book to all of those that love a good historical western.
better than I expected

I have read the other 2 reviews and don't understand them. I picked this book up at the library, quite by accident. I was very pleasantly surprised to find that the characters were well written and that it wasn't your usual formula romance. This is one of those rare books that you pass along to friends.
