More and Other Poems

Already the author of 18 novels and 12 non-fiction books, Robert Daley turns his eye and talents to a new, for him, art form. Here are 32 poems written over the past eight years, poems about Fame, about Faith, Hope and Charity, about Old Age, about Pain, even one about a football player. Many are about the joys of love and also the suffering love sometimes causes: First Love Is Best, Love The New Country, Last Love Is Best, and others. Some could well be songs, others are narratives, almost short stories. Many are no more than a page in length, others several pages long. Certain of them sound autobiographical. All are written to make an emotional impact on the reader, and unlike much of modern poetry, none are obscure and some are amusing, even funny. Nearly all are rhymed. There is also an afterword, a short essay on what, to the author's mind, a poem ought to be, and what it ought not to be.
