Book Overview

"Sweet and spicy and fabulous "--ABBY JIMENEZ, New York Times bestselling author of Yours Truly

TikTok sensation Morbidly Yours, an opposites-attract romantic dramedy about a shy, demisexual Irish mortician who must marry by his 35th birthday to keep his beloved family business, and the Texan widow escaping her past who moves in next door.

Falling for the wrong person? Bury your feelings.

Painfully shy Callum Flannelly would rather dive into an open grave than take a stranger to dinner. But he can only inherit the family undertaking business under one condition: He must marry before his 35th birthday. Texan animator Lark Thompson moved to Galway, Ireland, to restart her life and career, not be reminded of losing her husband by moving in next to a funeral home.

But when she learns of Callum's dilemma, Lark's certain she can help him find The One, even if she's sworn off love herself. Though as the dating project progresses and Lark spends more time with straight-laced, sarcastic Callum, he starts to crack the ice around her grieving heart. And the more joy that vivacious Lark brings to Callum's grey existence, the less he can imagine letting her return to Texas.

If they think they can ignore their connection, they're dead wrong.

"FIVE STARS. My favorite kind of rom com: funny, sexy, smart, and deeply emotional."--Annabel Monaghan, national bestselling author of Nora Goes Off Script

"I laughed, I cried, I definitely swooned. Emotionally complex, wholly unique and absolutely wonderful "-- Marissa Stapley, New York Times bestselling author of Lucky

Love, death & animation. Can we make this a movie, please?

4.5* stars. Review summary: Overall, a great book with compelling characters, a whimsical small town and its quirky inhabitants, the perfect spice level, and so much sweetness. While there's nothing groundbreaking, Morbidly Yours is definitely unique and worth any romance lover's time. Full review: There is not a lot I could say about Morbidly Yours. The characters were fun and were a great example of opposites attract; I particularly like Callum, the (kind of) friendly neighborhood mortician. His dark prickliness on the surface, but thoughtful sweetness on the inside, made me fall for him like Lark did. As someone who likes animated shows and movies, and comics, Lark's job sucked me in, but her bright attitude kept me in her world. Speaking of the world, the small town of Galway, Ireland was such a fun backdrop to this sweet and quirky romance. All the characters were well-defined, and I can't wait to read the other books in a Love in Galway series to learn more about these characters, especially a little more of Lark and Callum. Oh, and I really hope Houdini makes another appearance in the other books too! At times the writing felt a little jarring, like moving locations by the next paragraph, so there were times I had to look back to make sure I didn't miss anything. The pacing overall was good, but because of the jarring, it felt sped up at times when I don't think it necessarily would have if not for the fast transition of scenes. The couple's individual struggles felt real, though Callum's worry of needing a wife by thirty-five to save his family business also had a little "only in a book" vibe. That's not inherently bad by any means, but that feeling was more prevalent when things played out in the end. Which, again, the ending made me want to go out and buy the other novels in the series, just to know what happens to these two lovebirds!
