This is the true story of a young Jewish woman who escapes the ghetto of her small town in Poland in 1942, just prior to its liquidation. She is able to hide from the Nazis for nine months, but eventually is captured. She manages to survive as a slave laborer in Germany for nearly two years until liberated by the Soviet Union. However, upon liberation, she is not yet free, being forced to work on a Soviet cooperative farm for a year and a half. She again escapes and finds her way to a Displaced Persons Camp in Germany where she spends more than two years searching for a sponsor. Finally, in 1949, nearly four years after the war ends, she immigrates to the United States and finds happiness in her new life in Baltimore.
