The second novel in author/racer "BS" Levy's hilarious, historically accurate coming-of-age story about a blue-collar, 19-year-old New Jersey gas station mechanic/narrator Buddy Palumbo getting swept up in the glamorous, dangerous, upper-crust, and occasionally decadent world of open-road sportscar racing during the Eisenhower fifties. This time, Buddy's adventures take us from the shop floor of the gas station where he works to the shotgun seat of a Ferrari driven by a crazy, colorful, and charismatic Mexican in the 1952 La Carrera Panamericana, an unbelievable-but-true open-road race that ran from the southern tip of Mexico to the Rio Grande, all the way to an artists, academics, beatniks, and jazz musicians New Years Eve party that runs from the entire floor of an apartment building in Greenwich Village to Times Square. Winner of a 2000 Benjamin Franklin Book of the Year award.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Usually when you buy a continuation of a series the 2nd books and following are not as good as the first. I really enjoyed this book and if you like "The Last Open Road", I can assure you you will love this one as well.

If you have read "The Last Open Road" and liked it, you'll like this. It has the same fun characters and starts where "Open Road" leaves off. If you haven't read "The Last Open Road" you may not enjoy this as much... but, in my opinion, "Montezuma's Ferrari" would stand on it's own. I'm looking foward to reading the next book in the series.

If you read "The Last Open Road" and enjoyed it, you'll enjoy "Montezuma's Ferrari" as well. There's more adventures involving an increasingly worldly and less awkward Buddy. Although this book would stand alone, it has more meaning after first reading Open Road. They are both books that make you laugh out loud in the wrong places...like airplanes and public transportation. Unfortunately, if you're like me, the book is so entertaining it ends all too quickly. And the ending is a little abrupt. So If you're reading Burt, let us please have some more.
