The epic reviled

There is more to this series of lectures than just the structure and purpose of the epic. I have started and stopped the epics many times and even watched the films. However, even remembering snippets, I never saw the big picture. Timothy B. Shutt, Ph.D., has a way of explaining the continuity and relationships of the different monsters, gods, and heroes in the stories. The lectures are broken into 14 half-hour lectures. Epics covered are: Homer’s Iliad & Odyssey Aeneid Beowulf Dante’s Divine Comedy Faerie Queen Paradise Lost This presentation is heavily balanced towards his favorite epics, and just glance at the potential epics. The only drawback is that the series is over way too soon. Now I have to embark on a re-reading journey with a new outlook.
