In a classic case of Art versus Science, a professor discovers something in his study of art that bodes ill for the project to create a cyber-world for souls to inhabit after biological death. He puts himself on the line calling for more study before moving on. More to placate him than provide a chance to prove anything, he is granted limited time in a risky experimental cyber scenario of his choice. What he can hope to find--barefoot in the cyber hills of the Sierra Nevada, circa 1900 A.D. among the last of an endangered Indian tribe--his lone attendant, in order to have any hope of helping the cause and saving him and maybe herself, must find out. But all she's got to go on is his last lecture, which she has recorded. What she finds in the recording and subsequent events, leads her to a measure of personal redemption, a better understanding of art and humanity and and their respective places in the universe. And, though a long shot, a surprising alternate path for his and her future. And maybe humanity's too.
