Mona and May

By Izelle McHugh

Mona and May is a tender, beautifully illustrated tale about courage, compassion, and the extraordinary bonds that form when love chooses family over convention.

When gentle-hearted Mona rescues a trembling puppy named May, she unknowingly begins a journey that will transform her home into a kingdom of kindness. From saving a deaf dog from a fire to nurturing abandoned kittens, a wounded rat, and even a lost hedgehog, May becomes the beating heart of a mismatched family that learns what belonging truly means.

Through vivid storytelling and sensory detail, Izelle McHugh paints a world where bravery smells like smoke and safety feels like fur. Each chapter unfolds with cinematic warmth - from daring rescues to laughter-filled chaos - culminating in a message that families don't have to match to be perfect.

This story celebrates empathy, inclusion, and emotional resilience. It's ideal for children aged 6-10 and for parents who value stories that teach kindness, diversity, and the beauty of chosen family.

Mona and May is more than a children's book - it's a heart-warming reminder that love, in all its forms, is what makes a home.
