One of the first things a cow does when you put it into a field is to check for any weak spots to try to get out. It will keep checking every day. I grew up on a farm. One of my jobs was checking periodically for weak spots, or make sure electricity was making it through the wire fence. There were many dangers and trouble the cow could get into if he got out, and many ways the cow could cause problems for others. Parents need to be like a farmer to their children. They must put up a strong fence (rules) so that their children can be protected. Children feel secure with rules. Be like the wise farmer and be a good gatekeeper.
