When Molly finds an old dog by the river, it's love at first sight. They play together all afternoon, wandering deeper and deeper into the woods. Suddenly a mythic character--a goat man--is standing... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I found this little jewel while going through old childrens books at the Library to see what needed to be discarded. This is an excellent example of putting together the right team of writer and artist. Mary Pope Osborne tells the story of a little girl finding an old stray dog while playing outdoors. "I find a dog by the river in the reeds. An old Red dog with tattered ears." They play until the dog leads her into the woods and a meeting with the goat-man (Pan). "He stares at us and whispers in an ancient voice, "The hound is other than he seems." "He is?" I breathe." The artist(Elizabeth Sayles) uses pastels in soft rich colors to bring this simple story to life. This book is for anyone who knows the magic of dogs (or Pan). Needless to say, I kept the book!
