This chapter presents an introduction to Temporomandibular joint - human anatomy, with focus on TMJ prostheses available across India and the world. An introduction to the joint replacement techniques, design requirements for TMJ prostheses, dynamical, computational, and biomechanical aspects is also included in this chapter. Additive manufacturing technique namely 3D printing is also discussed in this chapter along with its salient contribution in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery. Issues in currently available TMJ prostheses' design and availability are described along with motivation of the work and objectives of the thesis.
