A scholarly, accessible introduction to key figures

This book reviews the "legacy of prayer" left by Dorothy Day, Abraham Joshua Heschel, Thomas Merton, C.S. Lewis, Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, SJ, Caryll Houselander, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Columba Marmion, OSB, and John Henry Newman. Each section begins with a biography that provides a sense of the persopn. Then he concentrates on the person's understanding of prayer. Clearly the writing is well founded, but it does not presume previous familiarity with these writers.
