Landmark designs by Gucci, Ferragamo and more come to life alongside vintage documentary films, illustrating the ascendancy of Italian fashion in the early 20th century
As part of the legendary film studio Cinecitt , the Istituto Luce in Rome has amassed thousands of films on Italian fashion. These archival reels, numbering almost 1,000, chronicle design techniques, the making of textiles and runway shows at the Venice Lido. Through the precious garments of legendary designers such as Gucci and Ferragamo and previously unpublished archival material, Moda in Luce retraces the rise of "Made in Italy" during the 1920s, '30s and '40s.
