Mixed Spices is what it says, a refreshing mix of poems and flash fiction, verbal jazz, some of which is reminiscent of the work of Spike Milligan or the writings of Donald Barthelme.
It includes the poem "Like a parrot's feathers, not" about the 2011 riots in England, written on the shore of Langstone Harbour in Portsmouth, close to The People's Memorial.
Some of this work is highly readable, some of it is outrageously funny, while some of it is complex and able to trip you up the way zen koans do, with several possible interpretations.
This paperback also contains "Clues to Mixed Spices" as well as an updated afterword.
