Mistakes. Carried & Abandoned is a fictional collection of notebooks left behind by an unnamed woodworker who spent fifty years moving from town to town, building boxes, losing people, ruining good boards, and trying to learn when to stay.
Some pages read like shop notes. Some like confession. Some begin with miters, shellac, hinges, glue, sanding, or the bottom of a box, then turn into something harder to name.
This is not quite a memoir, though it carries the weight of one. Not quite a craft book, though it knows the smell of oil, dust, old glue, and work done badly before it is done well.
Compiled after his death, these fragments form the record of a man who made things because making was easier than explaining himself.
A book about craft, memory, unfinished work, and the mistakes we carry because abandoning them is not always the same as letting them go.
