She has no choice but to stay and cook for the family and vows to make the best of it.

Missy's Life as a Slave follows the disappointments and growth of the relationships of the characters. Missy's honesty, devotion to the family and her dedication to her duties as a slave, wins the hearts of the Matthews'. Many lives are changed by the young woman.

The end of slavery after the Civil War was the start of a new day, which depicts the journey to freedom.
