Mississippi Sisters

Mother always told me family is the most important thing. If you don't have family then who do you have. I was raised to always be there but when you have sister like Rose it's hard, real hard. I love my sister, but sometimes she can be a real a bitch. Her being a bitch is what got her twin killed. Living in the 40's in Mississippi you would think things would be hard for a colored family like us, but it wasn't, most white folks around here didn't know if we were colored or white. We could pass most of the time, if we needed to. The colored around here called us half breeds, like we some kind of animal or something, but when it came time to get their meat and veggies they came to us instead of the pecker woods. Living on an old plantation can get a little hectic, but when aunt Martha turned up dead that was only the beginning.
