More than simple revenge

Losing a sister would be devastating, especially if it was because of some very bad men. And sometimes justice only comes outside the law. Which makes Penny a very interesting character and it was easy to sympathize with her and her indecision of whether or not to turn in the mysterious woman found on the scene of the latest murder. This was more of a slow burn mystery thriller with a few twists that were surprising and kept me hooked to see what Penny would do in tracking down the woman she feels a connection to and how it relates to her sister, Nix. I enjoyed listening to this audiobook which went a certain way and then twisted to something much bigger, and darker, and so many secrets are revealed and lives end up being at stake in a shocking turn of events which I definitely did not guess. That plus morally grey characters , a cat and mouse chase, and a desire for revenge made this great. I will say, while Penny was interesting with her hunches and how she figures out how to track the killer, I think my favorite character was Shadow. I would enjoy more stories with Penny and what she will tackle next, especially with the hook at the end which hints at more thrills for her. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me a chance to listen to this and discover a new author I like. The narrator and author, Joshilyn Jackson, did a great job in bringing Penny and her chase for justice and truth for her sister.
