Miss Theresa Vaughn: Our Lost, Cultural Gem and Keystone

Miss Theresa Vaughn (Theresa Ott Vaughn, 1867-1903)Please visit: http: //TheresaVaughn.com/ to experience five beautiful songs she performed. To prepare for this book I researched antique newspapers and theatrical journals. The reviews and articles I found were golden. Next I discovered sheet music of songs she performed. Hearing those songs gives one a better understanding of Theresa. Thomas Edison recorded Theresa singing "Little Wooden Shoes (the World Bread Fund song) for medium voice and piano".A ballad written by Josephine Grow ( Gro ). It was released on phonograph by Edison, sung by Theresa Vaughn, Raymon Moore and others. Proceeds of the sale were donated to the World Bread Fund charity. They served 7000 loaves of bread to the poor every Sunday morning. Josephine sold 300 copies among her friends, representing 600 loaves of bread". To date none of the 1894 black wax cylinder recordings have been found. Hopefully this book may help find one. What a treasure that would be .The above webpage .. has of her music.. based on that sheet music. They are wonderful, moving songs. In the book I also discuss two Buckbee 1880 and 1890 banjos identical to the ones Theresa played. This book is valuable even for those too young to read because of many beautiful pictures in it. It can serve as a mentor for all ages. - Leonard Schneider
