This was my favorite bakery in NYC. It's gone now, but if you can find a copy of this book, you can have the recipe for the BEST CHEESECAKE IN THE WORLD! I am not joking, I made the chocolate orange marble cheesecake and people were going nuts for it. Simply fabulous!
The Ultimate Dessert Book

MISS GRIMBLE PRESENTS DELICIOUS DESSERTS by Sylvia Balser Hirsch, published in 1983, is a great classic that all of us collectors need. Sylvia Hirsch moved from Dallas to New York in 1965. Her husband opened a barbecue restaurant, which folded. She went to work cooking her unmatched desserts and supplying them on a regular basis to Neiman-Marcus, Macy's, and Bamberger's, as well as New York Restaurants. According to TOWN AND COUNTRY magazine, her chocolate cakes are cholatier, cheescakes crunchier, and pecan pies crunchier than other restaurants'. In the cookbook she teaches us how to make cheesecake, fruit pies, cookies, and pudding the best way possible. While this book does not contain the Neiman Marcus recipe floating around on the Internet, it does contain many classics served in exquisite restaurants with easy-to-follow instructions. The comments in the book are entertaining, and there are some suggestions that some of us have not yet thought of. For example, when I make chocolate cake, I'm frustrated with the appearance of white flour on the bottom of the cake from the flour I dusted on the pan. Her solution: dust the pan with cocoa. There are an abundance of recipes with fruit, some great candy recipes, exquisite cakes, unusual cookie recipes, and a section of mousses, and recipes for mouth-watering crepes. This is a classic to keep!
