Everyone has suitcases, trunks, or closets filled with painful memories, secrets, and stories...myself included. For most of my life, I was running, scared and lost, living out of a suitcasefilled with the emotional baggage from my childhood. The wounds from my abandonment,molestation, bullying, and abuse were piled into my luggage and made its way onto myjourney of life. I was too scared to dump all of the contents out of my bag, afraid of what Iwould have to confront. For many years, I was weighed down with resentment, guilt, andshame; unable to truly move forward because I was so burdened by the pain I carried. Theemotional baggage of low self-esteem was always in hand, routing me in the wrong direction,onto the path of sex, vanity and manipulation. Until one day, I tripped over the extra luggageand fell into a pile of useless junk that I realized was a danger to my life. This emotionalbaggage cost me so much: my peace of mind, joy, and potential.When we travel, it is wise to take only the necessities with us; otherwise, the extra weightcosts more than money but is an inconvenience, too. Emotional baggage is the same way;useless and weighs us down. What is weighing you down? It is time to drop the contentson the ground and figure out what's in your suitcase that doesn't belong. Letting go of oldwounds, old habits, old truths means opening up the luggage, confronting what is there andthen unpacking it. Guilt, shame, and bitterness have NO place in your present life! It doesnot fit! Dumping out those contents is a painful process but if you don't, it will destroy you!Your freedom depends on your filtering. Are you finally ready to leave it behind?
