Eli Hale is sixteen, lives in a harbor city called Port Virel, and has a pretty uneventful life. Then his mom calls him out of class one afternoon, something goes wrong on the other end of the line, and he comes home to an empty apartment.
That's basically where normal ends.
Turns out there's an entire hidden layer to the world Eli grew up in, people called carriers who can interact with the fundamental rules of physics, shadow entities that form out of negative energy, and a government bureau dedicated to making sure none of it ever makes the news. His uncle Brad, who he's never met, shows up to pull him out of a police holding cell and starts explaining all of it.
The problem is Eli's own abilities are already coming in whether he's ready or not, his mom is still missing, and he's about to get dropped into a military academy full of kids who've known about this world their entire lives.
Binary Reflections, Volume 1 is the first book in a series about a hidden system, a missing mother, and a kid who's spent his whole life waiting for something to change.
