After writing my Miner Memories monthly column for local newspaper, The Saline Courier, I was encouraged by many to preserve those stories for future generations. Many stories were borne from this unique company-owned mining town with a diverse ethnic population located in Central Arkansas. Many outstanding characters emerged from the underground bauxite ore mines with tales to share. Other stories were just known facts by the locals with a few embellished situations inserted to make a more interesting tale.
