When Zadie's mom, a wildlife biologist, is assigned a research trip to the Arctic, her eleven-year-old daughter is forced to come with her. She spends two months in the frigid northern world without seeing any other kids until finally two sisters, Leanne and Sylvie, also move to the Arctic science center. One day, Leanne goes outside in a blizzard and finds herself lost in the woodland near the science center with no way home. Zadie, who fears returning to her lonely life without friends, makes a bold decision: she embarks on a dangerous quest to find her new friend in the Arctic wilderness. She journeys through snow-filled forests, across frozen rivers, and barely escapes a fiercely territorial wolf pack. After finally reuniting with Leanne, Zadie realizes that the journey home that awaits her is a lot more than just a physical one. Still, finding safety becomes more difficult than she ever could have imagined when she started, and now the only way back is almost impossible.
